Let’s hear it for Pun!

Alright, it’s been over 3 weeks since I last posted anything, and I’m sorry. With the stress of moving and life getting in the way, it’s been hard. Also, there’s been like, NOTHING going on. Well, no exactly nothing, but July, in general, is a slow sports month.

Anyways, here is Pun over at 3menandablind guy…and a humorless Yankee fan, with a special blog regarding the possible new Cubs owner. Take it away, Pun!

According to this story on ESPN.com today, Mark Cuban is currently the highest bidder for the Chicago Cubs at $1.3 billion.  Personally, I would love to see him get the team.  It seems from the comments on the ESPN story, however, many people (mostly fans of other teams) would not.

A good representative comes from a poster named amjohns8:

As a Brewers fan, I LOVE the idea of Cuban getting the Cubs. He’ll stick his nose in everyone’s business (talent recruiting, management, etc.) like he’s been doing with the Mavs and make them non-competitors for a good ten years or more. You think Gagne was a mistake? This would be a mistake of EPIC proportions!!! GO FOR IT!!!

Are there people out there really that dumb?  (Although, the first 4 words of his quote should have tipped me off.)  Mark Cuban is a competitor first and a businessman second.  He may stick his nose in things on occasion, but if he does for the Cubs, what he has done for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, I could care less.

You may say “Well, what championships have the Mavericks won?”  They may not have won anything yet, but most people don’t realize that when Cuban bought them, they were the joke of the NBA.  They were awful.  He turned them into a profitable and and perennial playoff team.  He is going to spend George Steinbrenner-type money to keep the Cubs competitive every year.

Look, all I ask for is an owner who will put the Cubs in a position to succeed year in and year out.  Not to mention that Cuban is a guy who respects traditions, and he is the one who will most likely keep up the Cubs’ traditions.  And who doesn’t love an owner who has already said he’s not going to have an owner’s box, rather he is going to sit in the RF bleachers with the stands?

Cuban better start kissing the owners’ collective asses, because he’s going to need their approval to get in.
